Q: What is the difference between partial profile and full profile?A: Partial profile inserts don't cut the minor diameter (do not make calibration) while full profile inserts cut the minor diameter.
Q: What is the advantage of the partial profile inserts?A: One insert covers a wide range of pitches.
Q: What are the disadvantages of the partial profile inserts? A: The insert nose radius is smaller than defined in the standard. This results in a thread that is not according the standard and in shorter tool life.
Q: What are the functions of the anvil? A: To support the insert cutting corner, to protect the holder body in case of insert breakage and allow the adjusting of the helix angle by changing the anvil.
Q: Is it possible to produce a LH thread with a RH toolholder and RH insert? A: Yes it is possible by changing the anvil and infeed method.
Q: Is it possible to produce multi starts threads with Vardex standard insert? A: Yes, it is possible (remember! lead = pitch multiplied by the no. of starts).
Q: What is the recommended infeed method ? A: Flank infeed has a better chip control and surface finish in most raw materials and applications.

Q: What infeed method does VARGUS use in the TM Gen? A: We recommend and use the tangential ARC method.
Q:What happens if a larger tool is used (larger d2) than recommended by VARGUS tables? A: A profile distortion will occur.
Q: What is "thread distortion"? A: The difference between a thread form according to the standard and the actual thread form on the workpiece.
Q: How much does the TM Gen cost and how can I get it? A: Free of charge from your local dealer.
Q: How can a thread longer than the insert itself be machined?A: You make once cycle, then move the tool in a "z" direction and machine a second cycle.
Q: What is the max. length for special tools? A: It is difficult to give a general answer because it depends on workpiece material, machine conditions, pitch and clamping system. Please ask us for your specific application.
